É com grande consternação e pesar que o prefeito Emanuel Pinheiro e a primeira-dama Márcia Pinheiro lamentam a morte do jornalista esportivo Nelson Antônio Severino. Nelson morreu nesta terça-feira aos 85 anos, após internação no dia 1 de novembro no Pronto Socorro de Várzea Grande.
Nelson apaixonou-se pelo jornalismo ainda jovem, quando começou sua carreira como jornaleiro e vendedor de assinaturas. Aos poucos, chegou até cargos de chefia na Folha de Londrina, no Paraná. Chegou em Mato Grosso em 1976, onde atuou como correspondente do jornal O Globo. Também foi correspondente no Jornal do Brasil, Jornal do Dia, Correio Braziliense, entre outros.
Sua atuação profissional ímpar o colocou em posições de destaques nos jornais impressos mato-grossenses como Diário de Cuiabá, Folha do Estado e Jornal A Gazeta, onde se aposentou. Severino também foi autor de um dos mais importantes registros da história do futebol do estado, ao escrever o livro “Folclore do futebol mato-grossense” lançado em 2011.
